The Things We Do For Your Wheelchair Accessible Taiwan Tours!

Arrange Wheelchair Accessible Accommodation

In Taiwan, not all the hotels offer accessible rooms. Rather than having you search through each one individually, we can directly identify which hotels have the accessible rooms you need. This way, after a day of exploring, you can return to a spacious room designed for easy wheelchair access and movement. Each room also includes an accessible bathroom, equipped with grab bars in both the toilet and shower areas, ensuring that wheelchair users can wash up safely and comfortably.

Plan Accessible Travel Routes

Each accessible travel route is personally visited by our staff to identify the flattest and most wheelchair-friendly paths at each destination. We also ensure that local facilities, such as accessible restrooms, are available.

Provide A Variety of Accessible Vehicles

Depending on the group size, we offer various vehicles equipped with lift platforms, from vans to tour buses, allowing wheelchair users to easily get on and off, ensuring a comfortable and effortless journey.

Assign Experienced Guides

An experienced guide is crucial for accessible travel as they understand the needs of wheelchair users. They know the best accessible routes and are well-versed in handling assistive devices. Should any unexpected obstacles arise, they’re able to quickly adjust the plan and ensure everything runs smoothly.

Prepare the Assistive Devices You Need

If it’s inconvenient for you to bring your own wheelchair, we can assist you in renting one! We can help arrange wheelchairs, walking sticks, walkers, and ramps to facilitate wheelchair movement. Let us know your special requests, and we will do our best to prepare all the assistive devices you need!

Select Suitable Restaurants.

We choose restaurants with spacious seating arrangements, ensuring they have accessible entrances, ramps, and doors for easy wheelchair access. If you have any special dietary requirements, please also let us know in advance.

The Wheelchair Accessible Tours We Created

A Wheelchair-Friendly Trip Created with You in Mind

Natalya from the Philippines reached out to us, sharing that her mother uses a wheelchair for mobility. Along with her desire for her mother to travel comfortably, Natalya expressed her hope that her mother’s needs would not hinder the family’s opportunity to travel and explore Taiwan together.

Guiding visually impaired travelers through the vibrant night market

In addition to the aromas and flavors of the food in the night market, our guide brings the scene to life through descriptive narration.

Our personal experience – an accessible trip planned by Topology.

We planned our Taiwan trip with 11 full touring days initially by normal internet searches of attractions, then we searched for an ”accessible” travel company. We found Topology Travel and they were very responsive by email and understood the importance of all the wheelchair travelers questions I asked.

Frequently Asked Questions for the Wheelchair Accessible Taiwan Tours

Do you customize itineraries based on guests’ physical conditions?

Yes. All of our wheelchair-accessible travel itineraries are customized based on each traveler’s physical condition and individual needs.

For guests with limited stamina, we often recommend a more relaxed travel pace or shorter daily touring hours to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

When is a wheelchair-accessible vehicle required?

If a traveler needs to remain in a wheelchair throughout the entire journey, or if they are using an electric wheelchair, we strongly recommend arranging a wheelchair-accessible vehicle with a lift. This ensures safe, comfortable, and smooth transportation during the tour.

If someone in the group has difficulty walking but only uses a wheelchair as a backup, a regular 9-seat vehicle is usually fine, as long as family members can help them get in and out of the vehicle.

What types of wheelchair-accessible vehicles are available?

The most common wheelchair-accessible vehicles we offer are:

  • 8-seat accessible van – recommended for groups with one wheelchair user.
Considering luggage space, the most comfortable setup is four passengers, including one wheelchair user.
For a one-day tour, when luggage space is not required, the vehicle can accommodate up to 5 passengers, including one wheelchair user.

  • Accessible bus – can accommodate up to 39 passengers, including two wheelchair user.

These vehicles are equipped with lift platforms and spacious interiors to ensure safe, smooth, and comfortable transportation for all travelers.

Are major attractions in Taiwan wheelchair-friendly?

Many of Taiwan’s popular attractions, such as Taipei 101, the National Palace Museum, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Yehliu Geopark, and Sun Moon Lake, offer wheelchair-accessible facilities.

Taiwan’s Tourism Administration also provides information related to accessible travel: Click here.

However, some destinations located on hills or in mountainous areas, including Jiufen Old Street, Alishan National Forest Recreation Area, and Cingjing Farm, still involve stairs or uneven paths. With the assistance of our professional tour guides, wheelchair users can visit selected areas safely and comfortably.

Are all sightseeing attractions in Taiwan wheelchair-friendly?

Not all attractions in Taiwan are fully equipped with comprehensive accessibility facilities.

In many cases, we rely on attentive service to bridge these gaps. For example, some streets may not be completely flat, and our experienced guide can help navigate these situations smoothly.

Is Taipei suitable for accessible travel?

Yes, Taipei is a wheelchair-friendly city. Major attractions such as Longshan Temple, Taipei 101, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, the National Palace Museum, and Tamsui Old Street provide accessible facilities, such as elevators, ramps, wheelchair pathways, and accessible restrooms. In addition, all Taipei MRT stations are equipped with accessible restrooms and elevators, making city travel convenient and safe for wheelchair users.

Is Sun Moon Lake suitable for wheelchair-accessible travel?

Sun Moon Lake is an excellent destination for wheelchair-accessible travel in Taiwan. Many attractions at Sun Moon Lake are designed to accommodate wheelchair users, including the Xiangshan Visitor Center, Ita Thao Old Street, and the Sun Moon Lake Ropeway.

Tea-making experiences in the area are also wheelchair-friendly.

For travelers who wish to enjoy a lake cruise, we can assist with booking accessible boat tours.

Sun Moon Lake offers a wide range of activities that ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for travelers of all mobility levels.

Are wheelchair-accessible hotel rooms easy to arrange in Taiwan?

Not exactly. Generally, only 4-star and 5-star hotels in Taiwan offer wheelchair-accessible rooms, while most 3-star or lower hotels do not provide accessible accommodations.

Even in 4-star and 5-star hotels, there are usually only 1–2 accessible rooms available per property. Searching for a suitable room can be time-consuming, so we recommend letting us help you find and arrange the wheelchair-accessible rooms in Taiwan.

What types of accessible rooms are available?

Most wheelchair-accessible hotel rooms in Taiwan feature one large bed, while only a few offer two twin beds. Rooms suitable for four guests are extremely rare.

Do Taiwan guesthouses/B&B offer wheelchair-accessible rooms?

Most Taiwanese guesthouses do not have full wheelchair-accessible facilities. For comfort and safety, we recommend that wheelchair users primarily stay in hotels with proper accessibility features.

Will the tour guide assist with pushing the wheelchair during the tour?

Our tour guides are responsible for guiding and assisting the group, but they do not provide personal care. For this reason, guides will not push wheelchairs. Wheelchair assistance should be handled by family members, or by the guest themselves if they are using an electric wheelchair.

Can the tour guide stay with the wheelchair user if he/she wants to rest while others go sightseeing?

Yes! If the wheelchair user hope to take a break while others continue exploring, the guide can stay with the wheelchair user, allowing him/her to relax comfortably in a café or another resting spot.
