The Beginning of Topology Travel Taiwan - Our Founder
Peter, a science and engineering graduate, once went hiking in Big Bend National Park in Texas with a friend who shared the film Into the Wild with him. In this story, he saw the protagonist embracing the experiences of self-discovery through travel, which inspired Peter to reflect on what kind of journey leaves the most meaningful memories—ones that don’t simply end when the trip is over.
On another trip, he witnessed a breathtaking meteor shower, with around 40 to 50 shooting stars streaking across the sky. “There were so many meteors that I felt like I had wished for everything I could!” At the time, he thought this was the greatest reward travel could offer.
Shortly after, he traveled alone to Las Vegas, immersing himself in a luxurious lifestyle. “I expected to feel thrilled, but instead, I felt deeply uncomfortable.”
It was then that Peter realized the true essence of travel isn’t about material pleasures or spectacular sights. Rather, it’s about quietly facing oneself and engaging in deep, meaningful conversations and connections with others—that is the true meaning of the journeys he seeks.
With this insight, after completing his military service, Peter worked at the Taoyuan International Airport’s visitor service center. There, he noticed many foreign travelers, besides visiting famous attractions, also yearned to explore Taiwan’s rich cultural heritage—but language barriers and rigid itineraries often left these needs unmet. Remembering his own travels in the US, where companionship and conversation fostered deep connections, he resolved to bring this style of meaningful travel to Taiwan.
In 2010, he founded Topology Travel, specializing in customized, private, in-depth tours. Through professional English-speaking guides, foreign visitors are led to explore Taiwan’s local culture and lifestyle beyond the typical tourist path.
Beyond travel, Peter’s interests include reading, rock climbing, and writing popular science articles on psychological marketing. These diverse passions enrich his understanding and enthusiasm for both travel and life. He believes the most meaningful travel memories come from sincere connections and exchanges between people.
