Highlights

Fushan Temple
Located in Jiufen, Fushan Temple was were miners prayed for safety and fortune of gold mining. There is a Tudigong (Earth God) Temple inside Fushan Temple. This was because the miners worshipped the Earth God and wanted to renovate the temple, but the Earth God, through divining blocks, instructed his followers that he wished to remain in place. The Earth God, however, did agree to external expansion, and thus this unique “temple within a temple.”

Shumeiping Historic Trail
As an important former military route, Shumeiping Historic Trail is a nice look-out spot with a view that takes in the Shuinandong ocean area, sitting right across Mt. Keelung. Hike uphill to the Shumeiping Observation Deck for a breathtaking panorama view of Mt. Keelung, Mt. Teapot, Jiufen, Jinguashi, and the beautiful northern coastline.

Caoshan Defense Road
Make a wish, write it on the lantern and let it fly. The sky lantern festival has long been used for people to pray for their wishes. During the Lantern Festival, around February and March each year, lanterns cover the entire sky of Pingxi. If you’re an artist, writer, or photographer, we highly recommend you see this festival for yourself.

Canguangliao Historic Trail
Canguangliao, or brilliant light house, is known for its location in a sea of silvergrass that shines under autumn sunlight. The ruined house, Ganzaidian, served as a rest and supply station during the old mining days for voyagers that constantly traversed between mining fields, postal stations, and military settlements. Come to this ancient rest stop and enjoy a cup of tea.

Shuangxi Cultural Workshop
The workshop provides a story-telling tour guided by Shuangxi locals and brings you back to the heydays two hundred years ago, when merchants and inland residents would arrive at the nearby ferry dock and come to the main street of Shuangxi for trade and supplies. Touring around the ruins of the opium den and the Zhou Family Old Homestead, visitors get to revisit the hundred-year memories of this ancient trading river route.
