Yilan Local Delicacy – Fried Sweetfish
Why not have your lunch at Bajia Fish Farm? The natural spring water in the farm cultivates sweetfish that tastes extraordinarily tender and flavorful. Salt-roasted or fried, the sweetfish and their caviar are a unique local find for fans of hai xian, or seafood. Situated inside of a beautiful garden complex, you’ll dine in style with an outstanding natural view for lunch.

Cycling around Plum Blossom Lake (Meihua Lake 梅花湖)
Meihua Lake occupies a wide expanse of land and is bordered by verdant mountains on 3 sides. The total lake surface is about 20 hectares. Encircling the lake is a trail that visitors can stroll around while enjoying the picturesque, tranquil scenery. Cherry and willow trees are planted along the trail, adding more charm to the atmosphere.

Back to the Old Times – National Center for Traditional Arts
The National Center for Traditional Arts was built to showcase how a traditional Taiwanese village works, and show how it can integrate into modern life in Taiwan. On a visit to the Center, visitors see examples of traditional grocery stores, folk arts, traditional merchants and eateries, all located in the Folk Arts Street shopping area. While we’re in the area, we’ll stop to see a traditional Chinese puppet show, spinning tops, ceramic glaze making, fabric dyeing, and a host of other traditional artisanal crafts that will give you insight into how society on the Ilha Formosa has functioned in times past.

Traditional Kiln-Roasted Chicken
Kiln-roasted chicken is a traditional and scrumptious Taiwanese dish. For foodies and chefs interested in picking up a local recipe or two, we teach the recipe and preparation process of Taiwan kiln-roasted chicken: First, season the whole chicken with Oolong tea, Chinese pepper and fresh spring onion. Next, cool the chicken in cold water to preserve textural integrity. Put the chicken into a pre-heated kiln where the fire is built by firewood that gives the chicken a delicate aroma. Finally, dress the chicken with pepper and salt, lace with chicken broth, sit back and wait as your traditional Taiwanese kiln-roasted chicken cooks – enjoy some more of that Oolong tea, while you’re waiting!
