Luye Plateau

Paragliding takes place in Luye Township year round with panoramic views of the valley below from the takeoff point. This is also the site of a popular hot air balloon festival that takes place each summer.

Pisirian PawPaw Drum Band

In the Amis language, Pisirian and PawPaw mean “a place for goat herding” and “buoy”, respectively. The PawPaw is used by the indigenous people to stabilize fishing nets. When the worn-out PawPaws were ready to be replaced a few years ago, the head of the communitydevelopment association, Ms Chun-Mei Chen, invited an artist, Mr. Zhi-Ming Fang, to come up with a creative way to integrate traditional weaving, patterns, colors and carvings to transform old buoys into uniquely styled PawPaw drums.

Headstream of Foot Massage: Changbin Catholic Church

Father Josef Eugster, more affectionately known as Father Wu, dedicated most of his life doing service in Taiwan under the Bethlehem Mission of Switzerland. Many years ago, a friend introduced him to the health benefits of traditional Chinese foot massage, also referred to as reflexology. He modified this ancient alternative therapy, and has taught its techniques to many of the members of his congregation. The local community provides them with the means to heal people while earning an income.

Sanxiantai Scenic Area

This is a rock outcrop that was once connected to the coral reef coast. However, over time, water and wave erosion caused this rock outcrop to be cut off. Now, the only way to reach it is by crossing the eight arches of a pedestrian bridge, which was completed in 1987. Its name, Sanxiantai, means “plateau of the Three Immortals”, a reference to an ancient Chinese legend. However, this was once part of the traditional land of the neighboring indigenous Amis village of Pisirian. It was where they came to collect shellfish and to allow their goats to graze.

The quality of his dishes is enhanced by his sense of humor and desire to entertain his guests, as well as his passion for preserving and passing on Amis traditional knowledge of the ocean and fishing and hunting. His specialty is innovative cuisine that is a fusion of traditional Amis and locally obtained ingredients and modern cooking methods.
